WASHINGTON, D.C. – In just a few hours President- Elect Donald Trump will take the oath of office and become our 47th president. It will be his second term in office. There are a lot of planned events surrounding Inauguration Day.
Traditionally, the incoming President and Vice President will begin the day with a private church service. Afterwards, Trump and his wife, Melania, are expected to go to the White House and meet with President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden. Around noontime, Vice President- Elect J.D. Vance will be sworn in first and then Trump will swear in and give an inaugural speech.
Due to the cold weather, the swearing-in ceremony has been moved into the Capitol rotunda. Only a select few people will be allowed inside the rotunda. We expect to see former Presidents, members of congress, Supreme Court Justices, Trump’s family and members of his new administration as part of that select group.
With this change, that means people who traveled here can’t watch it in person. Instead, Trump has encouraged people to go to the Capital One Arena in downtown D.C. to watch the ceremony indoors as it’s being livestreamed. We asked people if they’ll try to get inside the arena.
“Yeah I pray I will yeah,” said Karen Marzetta, who traveled to D.C. for the inauguration. “I hope so, I mean I think that’s what we all hope for, we hope to get in. If we don’t, we’ll deal with it. We’re hard core Trump supporters so I’ll do whatever I gotta do.”
The rest of the day will be marked with celebrations, inauguration balls and a parade. We expect a lot of celebrations from Trump supporters in D.C.
We are also expecting Trump to sign a handful of executive orders within hours after he is sworn in. He told a crowd during Sunday’s victory rally those executive orders will address issues like immigration and reverse some of Biden’s measures.
