WEST BRANCH TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Gwinn area man is facing multiple charges after police say he fired a gun at a vehicle.
On Jan. 10 around 8:28 p.m., Michigan State Police were dispatched to a report of a single-vehicle crash on County Road 545 near M-94 in West Branch Township. The investigation resulted in the arrest of Jeffrey Johnson, 56, for operating while intoxicated, and Johnson was lodged at the Marquette County Jail.
The next morning, residents of a home near where the crash occurred reported that the front and back windows of their vehicle had been shot out. Nobody was injured, but the vehicle was damaged. A further investigation determined Johnson had allegedly fired a rifle at a vehicle parked outside of a residence before crashing his truck that previous night. The firearm believed to be involved was found near the crash site concealed in a bush.
Johnson was additionally charged with felonious malicious destruction of property, discharging a firearm at a residence, and felony firearm.
He was arraigned in the 96th District Court on Jan. 13. His bond was set at $30,000 with conditions. He is due in court next on Jan. 23.
