ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Wednesday, the Delta Conservation District held its first meeting of 2025. This year, it is focused on cultivating a connection with the community.
At the meeting, board members listed their visions for the new year. While each member mentioned different goals and objectives, they all agreed that community outreach was at the top of the list.
According to Manager Heather LeDuc, the board aims to get the public involved in conservation through workshops and events, starting with a composting workshop in March.
“We want to reach out and service our community members and offer some really great things to educate them but also bring them together,” LeDuc said. “We want to create better relationships between our organization and the community, and not just the people of the community but also our natural resources and our non-human relatives.”
Right now, the Conservation District is gearing up for its Annual Tree Sale. This year’s sale will feature new offerings like fig trees and native species.
The online Tree Sale store will go live on Monday, January 27. Those interested in purchasing a tree will also be able to order at a kiosk in the Conservation District Office, located at 2003 Minneapolis Avenue in Gladstone.
