TROUT LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – A home in Chippewa County is a total loss after a massive fire Tuesday that also damaged a neighboring home.
According to Michigan State Police- Sault Ste. Marie Post, it happened around 1:45 p.m. at a home on W Main St., near M-123 in Trout Lake Township. The home was fully engulfed in flames. When troopers arrived, the Trout Lake Fire Department was already on scene and was soon joined by fire departments from Whitefish, Hulbert, and Hendricks Townships.
The home was a total loss, but all three occupants and their two dogs were able to escape. One cat reportedly died in the fire. No injuries were reported.
The neighboring house also suffered damage, but was not a total loss.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The responding agencies were also assisted by the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office and Straits Area EMS.
