ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The City of Escanaba is looking ready for Christmas. A new contest aims to reward the shops and restaurants bringing holiday cheer to Ludington Street.
The Business Partners Committee of the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has launched the Walking in a Winter Windowland contest. Residents are encouraged to stroll through the downtown to see which businesses have the best displays.
Residents can vote for the business with their favorite display online. The business that receives the most votes by December 31 will receive an advertising package.
DDA Director Craig Woerpel says storefronts, offices, and eateries complete the downtown’s Christmas decor. It all comes together with the garland hanging over Ludington Street, courtesy of the City Electric Department, and the tree at Center Court to make the perfect holiday shopping backdrop.
“As we’re all getting ready for Christmas, we’ve got to get those special gifts,” said Woerpel. “Those can be found in downtowns and the unique shops that we have. There’s a lot of other businesses too if you’re shopping and need someplace to eat, grab a drink—maybe get your taxes done for the new year! Certainly, there’s a lot of different businesses that people can take advantage of.”
The Business Partners Committee of the DDA hopes the contest encourages even more businesses to deck the halls before Christmas.
