ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Escanaba Department of Public Safety has welcomed some new four-legged recruits to the force.
At Thursday’s City Council meeting, Mayor Mark Ammel swore in K-9s Cigo and Enzo. Both dogs barked in agreement when asked if they would faithfully and impartially serve their community.
Enzo and his handler, Officer Aaron Young, received a certificate for their exceptional performance in the D&D Dog Dynamics training academy.
According to D&D President Sammi Grzybowski, the typical National Association of Professional Canine Handler track includes 300 yards, three turns, and a surface change. Young and Enzo completed a 1,000-yard track, seven turns, and three surface changes “with a breeze.”
“They went above and beyond, especially for a first-time handler and for a 10-month-old dog,” she said. “They were at a level that most do not achieve until follow-up training in the year to come after academy.”
The K-9 handlers signed Enzo and Cigo’s oath of office, which already had paw prints by the signature line.
