Barker’s Tiny Tots to open childcare facility in Manistique

MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A new Schoolcraft County childcare facility is set to open its doors next week.

Barker’s Tiny Tots was founded in Newberry in 2022. Now, the family-owned business is launching a Manistique location at 401 North Maple Street.

“The director over there is my daughter,” said Marcella Barker, owner of the Manistique location. “We have 32 children enrolled in Newberry.”

Staff will provide care to children ages 0 – 9 from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Barker says there is also potential for after-school services once the daycare is established.

Barker says as the demand for quality daycare continues to grow, Barker’s Tiny Tots aims to relieve some of the stress many working parents are feeling.

“Everybody said that there was a need for daycare,” she said. “Already having one established in Newberry, it was easy just to transfer the rules and regulations from Newberry to Manistique. I’m hoping with opening the daycare, that it will allow people to go back to work and have a safe place for their children to go.”

Barker’s Tiny Tots is accepting applications for students, which can be picked up at the daycare. Barker and the facility’s director are also looking for staff members to join the team. Applicants must be 18 or older and have a high school education.

Barker’s Tiny Tots tentatively plans to open on Monday, December 2. For more information, visit the Barker’s Tiny Tots Facebook page or call (906) 291-5054.
