MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The cold weather and flu season are here. This cold season has mycoplasma pneumonia and whooping cough outbreaks that are shocking the community.
The medical representative at the Marquette Medical Urgent Care share was to prevent the spreading of germs this season. Making sure you’re washing your hands, being cautious of what you touch in the classroom, at home, and when out and about, and not touching your face eyes or mouth will help prevent germ spread.
Medical representatives also shared how sense covid unusual disease patterns, like the outbreaks of mycoplasma pneumonia and whooping cough. Staying up to date on your vaccinations like the tetanus shot helps against whooping cough. It is very important that if you or someone in your life has a child under the age of 1 or a mother in her 3rd trimester be up to date on your vaccines.
“One of the big things we’re seeing is mycoplasma pneumonia which is a bacterial infection that hasn’t been prevalent anytime in the last decade or so but is making a comeback this year,” said Doctor Shawn Brown, Marquette Medical Urgent Care owner. “We’re especially seeing spikes in preschool age children which is younger than the typical so the 2 to 4 year olds are getting hit pretty hard with it and we’re also seeing it in the elementary kids all the way through college kids”.
Vaccinations can be found at local pharmacies and the Marquette Medical Urgent Care. More information can be found at the Marquette Medical Urgent Care website.
