OSF rings “Bells for Hospice” in Escanaba

ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Friday, a Delta County healthcare organization kicked off National Hospice and Palliative Care Month with a special event.

OSF Home Care and Hospice workers and community members gathered outside the Seventh-day Adventist Pantry as part of the “Bells for Hospice” campaign. Participants waved signs urging drivers to honk for hospice care, and the Escanaba High School Choir performed “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen.

According to OSF Home Care and Hospice Manager Lesley Hoffmeyer, “Bells for Hospice” helps to raise awareness about the value of end-of-life care. She says it also shines a light on the important work hospice nurses do in their communities.

“It’s really a rewarding career,” said Hoffmeyer. “People are so thankful that you can help them and their families throughout this journey to die with dignity and respect and give them quality time and care that they need at the end of life.”
