NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – US Department of Labor (USDOL) Acting Secretary Julie Su, along with the Assistant Secretary for Mine Health and Safety Christopher Williamson visited Cleveland Cliff’s Tilden Mine in Negaunee on Friday.
Su spoke with mine leaders and workers from both the mining and steel industries about safety, steel applications, infrastructure, and even foreign trade.
Su said it’s important to protect American industries and industry workers.
“It’s just an important reminder of how we need to, as a country, invest in industries, in companies, and in American workers like these,” said Su. “In order to continue to make things here, and build up the strength of the economy and build up our country that way.”
Cleveland Cliffs COO Clifford Smith said this is an important reminder that steel products used all over the US start in mines like the two in Negaunee.
