IRON RIVER, Mich. (WZMQ) – One person is dead and three others injured in a single-vehicle crash near Iron River.
The Iron County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched to Ottawa Lake Rd. around 3:11 a.m. for a report of a crash. When deputies arrived on scene, they found a van had appeared to be traveling west when the driver failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the roadway, striking a tree.
A male passenger from Iron River was dead when deputies arrived. The female driver and another male passenger from Iron River were taken to Aspirus Iron River Hospital with serious injuries. A third male passenger from Indiana was extricated from the vehicle with the Jaws of Life. He was also taken to Aspirus Iron River with serious injuries.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
Iron County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted at the scene by West Iron County Fire Department, Iron County Search and Rescue, Aspirus EMS, Iron County Central Dispatch, Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River, Michigan State Police Accident Investigators, and Northland Towing.
