MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – It’s officially fall, and businesses in Manistique’s west side are inviting the community to celebrate the new season this weekend.

The annual Westside Flannel Fest willl take place along Deer Street on Saturday, September 28. The family-friendly festival is set to feature more than 40 craft vendors, live music, food trucks, chainsaw carving, euchre and pool tournaments, bounce houses, face painting, and raffles.

Andrew Larkins, owner of Westside Tobacco & More, says Flannel Fest also shines a spotlight on businesses located outside of the downtown area.

“A majority of the festivals we have here in Manistique are on the east side of town,” he said. “There’s more businesses on that side. We’re trying to change that year after year, trying to get some of these buildings filled on this side of town. It’s just going to be a day for everybody to get together on this side of town and have fun.”

Westside Flannel Fest begins at 11 a.m. and concludes at 6 p.m. For more information, visit the event Facebook page or discovermanistique.com.

In Houghton, a rally brought community members together to voice concerns about data center development. Organizers say they worry about the impact on water, power, and the character of the area. Supporters of the rally say they want local leaders to slow down and take a closer look before moving forward. The message from the crowd was clear: they want their voices heard before any final decisions are made.
