GWINN, Mich. (WZMQ) – Gwinn’s Lions Club is helping the Gwinn Seed Library plant a new garden outside Gwinn High School.
The new garden will grow fruits and vegetables like tomatoes, melons, squash, potatoes, and carrots.
All the food will go to the school to help round out student lunches with fresh produce.
The Seed Library and the Lions Club also hope to be able to use what they learn here to impact the whole UP.
“Our goal is to be able to give those seeds away to families all throughout the UP,” said Gwinn Seed Library seed bearer and Lions Club member Steve Finely. “Through the Lions, through other organizations we’ll be able then to share what we have and help them grow better.”
The garden is expected to grow over 500lbs of food through the school year and even more next summer.
The boxes will be put in on Saturday starting at 9 a.m. volunteers are welcome.
