ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – A trial date has been set for a Delta County man charged with shooting his former father-in-law in January.
On January 21, a shooting was reported at the home of Jacob Cronick. In February, his former father-in-law Eric Parrotta testified that he went to Cronick’s house while a group of men helped his daughter—who had recently been divorced from Cronick—pick up her personal property.
Security camera footage shows Parrotta slapping Cronick’s phone out of his hands. Cronick then pins Parrotta against a car. Some of the other men became involved in the physical altercation. After they were separated, Cronick shot Parrotta in the abdomen. Parrotta was hospitalized for three days.
At Cronick’s February court appearance, a judge found that there was probable cause for the charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder or by strangulation. On Wednesday, September 11, Judge John Economopoulos added a felony firearm charge at the request of County Prosecutor Lauren Wickman, who said the prosecution has received a transcript of the incident since filing its original motion.
Cronick will stand trial for both charges on March 3. The court anticipates the trial lasting four to five days.
