ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – As the boating season nears its end, Escanaba’s Harbor Advisory Committee is preparing for seasons to come.
The commitee is creating a five-year plan for the Municipal Marina. On Tuesday, members outlined their priorities for the marina and boat launches, like securing funding for a new fish cleaning station, upgrading the fuel station, and repairing docks.
The City of Escanaba Recreation Department took over management of the marina in February. Recreation Director Kim Peterson says thanks in part to good weather and local events, it has been a strong first year.
“Throughout the season, it got busier and busier,” she said. “We had a lot of transients this year. We won’t know exactly how the numbers came in until the end of the budget year, but we had more seasonals this year than we ever had before. We had about 15 more seasonals, so overall it was very busy.”
The five-year plan is still in the early stages of development. The Harbor Advisory Committee plans to put out a survey in the coming months to get input from the public.
