MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Wednesday was the last Wednesday Night Farmers Market on Marquette’s Washington Street.
The market wouldn’t exist without the farmers that show up to sell their produce so for out final vendor spotlight of the year, we shined a light on one local farm with a name inspired by history.
New Dalton Farms in Skandia is names after the village of New Dalton which the farm is located on.
The farm owner Kevin Keller said he enjoys the local history and wanted to remember it though his farm.
“When we moved there we learned that was actually the village was called New Dalton back in the late 1800’s, that was settled by John Dalton,” said Keller. “They had a business there primarily making rocking chair parts, and I like history so I kind of honored the history of the area.”
If you still want to check out local vendors many will still be at the Saturday Farmers Market at the Marquette Commons which will continue through October 26.
WZMQ19 has been a proud sponsor of the Wednesday Night Farmers Market.
