Bay College Center for Youth Health & Wellness hosts community open house

ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Thursday, Bay College invited the public to tour its community health center.

The Center for Youth Health & Wellness opened in January. Also known as The Center, it serves anyone ages 10 to 21 in need of non-emergency healthcare, both physical and mental.

Thursday afternoon, The Center held a grand opening and open house to show the community what it has to offer, which includes free physicals for student athletes through August 30.

Over the last seven weeks, Public Health Delta Menominee Health Officer Mike Snyder says The Center has provided more than 300 sports physicals. As a partnership between Bay College and Public Health, Delta & Menominee Counties (PHDM), The Center’s goal is to make healthcare more accessible for young people.

“There’s a need in our community, especially for the mental health services,” said PHDM Health Officer Mike Snyder. “Anybody that is in need of mental health services really struggles to find a provider. Then also, physical health. Especially for children, going to a doctor can be intimidating, and this clinic is geared towards children and adolescents.”

The Center for Youth Health & Wellness is located in Room 231 of the Catherine Bonifas (CB 200) Building. To schedule an appointment, call (906) 786-1672. Follow The Center on Facebook or visit phdm.org for more information.
