Rep. Kelly Shares Latest Progress on Task Force Investigating Trump Assassination Attempt

by WZMQ

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Northwest Pennsylvania Representative Mike Kelly (R- PA) who is leading the newly created task force investigating the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump, hopes to bring all members on the task force to the Butler County site where the incident happened by the end of this month.

Kelly said so far he’s reached out to authorities to get the ball rolling but right now it’s been difficult to get the task force together because members are back in their home districts for the month of August. Kelly hopes to bring everyone to the site in Pennsylvania at least by the end of the month.

In July, the former President faced an assassination attempt at a rally in Kelly’s district. Authorities said Trump was hit by a bullet in the ear. The shooter was later killed by the Secret Service.

Kelly adds he wants members to meet with and hear from local authorities who were there during the assassination attempt one month ago. He has so far spoke with all members on the task force. Their goal is to find out what mistakes led up to the assassination attempt and present their findings to the public before the end of the year.

“One of my main concerns was that from the very start of this was: what site did you select and what kind of oversight was there in looking at that site,” said Rep. Kelly. “And then it comes down to: what was the ability to bring not only the Secret Service to that site but all the local law enforcement groups. And one of the things that’s bothering me right now is if you did not know until the afternoon on July 13th that you could not communicate with each other, that doesn’t bode well.”

The task force will have subpoena power and Kelly adds it will be a huge responsibility for all members in this investigation. We expect this task force to really get into gear when members return to Washington next month. We asked Kelly if they will have a lot of public prime time hearings like what we saw with the Committee investigating the January 6th US Capitol attack. Kelly said he does not want that kind of theater for this task force. We expect a lot of their work to be done behind the scenes.
