ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Delta County Clerk says the primary election was a success for local precincts, despite a low turnout.
Clerk Nancy Przewrocki says primary elections typically see a much smaller turnout than general elections. However, the August 6 primary was especially low, with Delta County reporting a roughly 23% voter turnout.
“It’s on the lower side for a primary,” said Przewrocki. “We’ve had as much as a 30% turnout for a primary.”
While the primary brought some changes for clerks and poll workers, Przewrocki says things went smoothly overall.
“We had a new website that we were reporting to, so that was a learning experience last night,” she said. “We’re glad to have it, and we’re hoping in November that will go even faster. We had early voting, and that’s extra work that we have to do on election night. We can’t do that until 8:00 and we have to bring in extra help for that. The city and township clerks did a fantastic job, the election workers did a great job, and my staff always is just excellent.”
Przewrocki herself was on the primary ballot. The clerk of nearly 24 years garnered 75.5% of the vote, while political newcomer Elizabeth Moberg earned 24.16%.
“I am very happy the way it turned out,” Przewrocki said when asked about her win. “I appreciate that people voted for experience, and I will continue to serve the people of Delta County.”
