MUNISING, Mich. (WZMQ) – Members of the Munising Memorial Hospital gathered outside the emergency room to welcome State Representative Jenn Hill, and a very big check.
“it’s my absolute honor to present this allocation of $2 million dollars to Munising memorial hospital to upgrade their facilities so they can continue to provide outstanding care.” Said Hill.
Munising Memorial Hospital is a non profit rural healthcare facility serving Alger county. built in 1961 and renovated in 2004, the hospital is in need of infrastructure repairs and technological updating. This infusion of funds will help them continue their mission to provide quality inpatient, outpatient, and emergency healthcare to the Munising area. CEO Jim Parker has been working on securing these funds for nearly two years. and today, his diligence paid off.
“In a matter of a year, we will be doing things that probably would have taken us 10 years to do.” said Parker.
Small rural hospitals are facing significant challenges due to smaller patient volume and new billing procedures laid out by the federal government. Representative Hill understands how vital small hospitals are to the community.
“It’s important that we are supporting these rural hospitals that provide that critical access point to then stabilize and get the care that they need. And then if they need more care, they get move to a bigger hospital, but these they’re they’re the frontline.” Said Hill.
among the list of current needs are renovation of the ER, and the updating of lab equipment and imaging services.
