IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Tour De Dickinson, a highly anticipated road bike event, is introducing an exciting new race category this year. Scheduled for next Saturday, the event offers a range of distances suitable for all ages, promising participants a fun-filled day with t-shirts, food, music, and more.
Derek Lindstrom, the Tour De Dickinson Event Coordinator, explained the various distances available: “Well, the Tour De Dickinson is a number of distances or tours. There’s a 5-mile family ride or tour, 20 miles, 40 miles, and 62 miles. This year we are also offering a 100k race. It’s wonderful for families. It’s family-friendly. It’s affordable. Everybody gets great shirts and, you know, pancakes when we’re done and stuff like that—it’s a great time.”
The new 100k race, which Lindstrom calls the “duel at Dickinson,” will follow the same 62-mile course as the 100k tour, forming a large loop that starts and finishes at Pine Mountain Ski and Golf Resort. “It’s an actual race. This is the first year. It’s just a big loop that starts and finishes right here at Pine Mountain Ski and Golf resort,” Lindstrom informed.
In a nod to inclusivity, the event will allow e-bikes for the tour, though not in the race. Lindstrom noted, “Well, we’ve had a 100k tour, and every year it kind of changes—62 miles, 60 miles. Let’s bring some race in here. Let’s have some fun.”
The event has attracted participants from across the country. “I haven’t looked, but I think we have like nine states represented right now, entering. I think most of them are coming for the race right now,” Lindstrom said.
The event kicks off at 8:00 a.m. on August 3rd, with packet pick-up from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. at Pine Mountain. Those interested in entering any of the tour distances or testing their mettle in the 100k road bike race can find more details on the Dickinson Trail Network’s website. Entry fees vary depending on the chosen distance and race.
