Experiencing the Republican National Convention: Vendors, Networking and Cornhole

MILWAUKEE, WI- As the Republican National Convention focuses on policies and issues important to the Republican party, experiencing the convention is nothing like what you see on TV. Our correspondent shares what attendees experience at the convention.

Each night speakers take the stage at the Fiserv Forum in downtown Milwaukee, but outside of the main arena within the security perimeter, visitors get a chance to kick back, relax and let loose.

“This is the most electrifying thing I’ve been involved in,” said Texas delegate Rochelle Brooks. “I’ve been in politics since I’ve been 15 years-old. I’m 60 now so its 45 years and I feel like a little kid, like a five-year-old on Christmas Eve.”

People get a chance to meet with folks from across the US. Mingling with one another is a huge part of the atmosphere here. And when it comes to grab a bite to eat, attendees have a variety of options, including some of the local brews or even trying out some of Wisconsin’s famous cheese curds.

Outside of the Forum, it’s not hard to pass by the slew of working journalists from across the globe interviewing delegates and congressional leaders. It makes a great place for people watching and spotting celebrities or well-known Republicans.

For many, they’ll let loose by taking up a friendly or competitive game of cornhole. In all, there’s a ton of energy around the convention. Some that we spoke with look forward to relaxing after a long day.

“Rest, rest for me,” said Florida Delegates Michele Merrell and Linda Stoch. “Rest. It’s all nonstop. We get to go to the lobby after the convention and sitting there and recapping and talking. It’s amazing will watch it again couple of more times on TV and then I’ll sleep.”
