MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – This weekend, a U.P. music festival is celebrating its 35th anniversary.
Manistique’s annual Folk Fest is scheduled to take over the downtown Friday, July 12 – Saturday, July 13. This year’s event includes more than 75 food and craft vendors in Manistique’s Social District, activities like ax throwing, and a full lineup of artists performing in a range of musical styles.
According to Schoolcraft Tourism & Commerce Executive Director Victoria George, Folk Fest always draws a large crowd. She says it also provides a nice boost for local businesses.
“Our restaurants and stores are open during the Folk Fest time to help with their business, as well as Lake Effect Community Arts,” said George. “Also, our local people have a venue where they can show their talents and the crafts that they make and the art that they draw. It’s just good all-around for the residents, businesses, and everyone coming from far to be here.”
Folk Fest begins with an opening ceremony at 5:30 Friday evening, with bands scheduled to play until 12:30 a.m. The music continues on Saturday morning at 10, concluding after midnight.
