MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Superior Watershed Partnership and the Great Lakes Climate Corps partnered to create the Summer Series Volunteer Events. There are two on the second and last Friday from June to August each event being a different project.
This Friday’s project is weeding and removing invasive plants and planting native species like the wild sunflowers. The organizations hope to keep hope in mind with these projects. Making sure there is a positive to their negative like replanting the plants that are removed.
Organizers share that their favorite part is the ethical aspect. Promoting things like sustainable tourism and encouraging the community to get involved in the clean-up of Marquette’s ecosystem.
“Things we get to call here, call home, in the Upper Peninsula but actually getting people involved and caring for the ecosystem and the environment and the health,” Kathleen Henry, Special Projects Coordinator.
The next volunteer event is July 12th more details will be released, on the Superior Watershed Partnership website.
