ISHPEMING, Mich. – (WZMQ) – Approximately 90 volunteers and even a few local celebrities came out to help finish a Habitat for Humanity home in the Ishpeming area.

Among the group was local celebrities Olympic gold medalist Nick Baumgartner and Indianapolis Colts and celebrity coach, Jake Witt. Also the U.P. all- star football team joined in to help finish the project, laying sod and mulch and take a break from preparation of the big game on Sautrday.

“It’s an awesome opportunity to lend a hand to habitat for humanity and just trying to teach them the imprtance of giving back. said Nick Baumgartner. They used that work ethic they have to get them where they are today and now they have a chance to give back with it.”

The U.P. football also used this opportunity to get some team bonding in whike giving back ahead of their all-star game on Saturday. The players on red and black teams, but set aside their differences for a good cause.

” We dont even care about that right now,” said Pearsson McKay. “We’re all getting along and we know the game is on Saturday. so thats when we’re going to get mad at eachother for now we just wanna have a good time and enjoy oursleves.”

Local business and organizations also chipped in and helped with the project as they donated materials for the yard and the meals for the volunteers. The family hopes to move into the completed home within the next few months.
