IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – During a meeting at their clubhouse, the Borderhounds Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club (LEMC) announced the impressive results of their annual fundraiser, this being the second year in a row club members selected to fundraise for the Dickinson County Dive Rescue team. Over the weekend, the community rallied together to support the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team, raising a substantial $11,000.
Chuck ‘Woodchuck’ Lantz, organizer of the fundraising festival, which took place at Lake Antoine Park this past weekend, shared his enthusiasm. “After the fact, I think we had a very, very successful fundraiser,” Lantz declared. “We had a lot of attendance and a lot of sponsors this year. It was just a great day. A lot of money was raised for a needy cause and for an underfunded program with the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team.”
This year’s event included new attractions, especially for children, which contributed to its success. Lantz emphasized, “We had some areas for kids as well this year, so that was an addition to what we had last year. It’s only going to grow, and next year is going to be bigger. We already are starting to plan for next year, so get ready for June 14, 2025.”
The fundraiser benefited greatly from numerous sponsors. Lantz acknowledged their support, noting, “We had a ton of sponsors this year. We started out almost in the green. A big shout-out to Kenneth James Salon, Rize UP, Jake’s R&R Tires, Champion Inc., Town and Country, & Paquin’s Drain Cleaning. There were so many sponsors it’s hard to name them all.”
Lantz underscored the importance of the dive team, explaining, “There’s such a need for those divers to get in the water. None of us know when we’re going to need that rescue dive team. It takes anywhere from $6,000 to $10,000 to get one diver in the water, and that’s not including the command center and other equipment up above. We want to fund a lot of needs, but we still need more funds.”
Jeremiah ‘Daktari’ Jacobson, the club’s treasurer, reflected on the event’s success as he announced the financial results. “It went really well this year. We doubled everything that we did last year. Our attendance was over 1,000 this year. Last year, we were able to donate $5,250 to the dive team, and this year, after expenses, $11,000 will be going to the dive team.”
Looking ahead, Lantz encouraged everyone to mark their calendars for next year. “They still need more,” he said. “June 14, 2025, is only going to get bigger and better. We need everybody to come out, enjoy the music, and enjoy the food vendors. We’ve got some surprises for next year already in the works, so stay tuned. It’s going to get bigger, and it’s going to get better.”
The incredible outpouring of support from the community has not only raised significant funds for a vital cause, but also sets the stage for an even more successful event in 2025.
