The communities of Houghton and Hancock are preparing to celebrate the 64th anniversary of the iconic Portage Lake Lift Bridge. Bridgefest, now in its 37th year, is set to take place Thursday through Sunday at the Ray Kestner Waterfront Park, promising a weekend filled with festivities that honor both the bridge and the vibrant communities it connects.
There are many great events to attend over the four-day festival: The Bridgefest Parade will march through downtown Houghton on Saturday morning – the fireworks display will light up the night sky on Saturday night. There will be live music and entertainment, food and craft vendors, kids activities, sporting events, and competitions, including one of my favorites – a hotdog eating competition.
Bridgefest is more than just a festival; it’s a celebration of the community, for the community. For a list of events, check out bridgefestfun.com.
