MARQUETTE, Mich, (WZMQ) – The Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights Schools to Tools program visits high schools across the state with a truck full of trades activities.
Today it was at Marquette Senior High School (MSHS), giving the students a nice change of pace from their usual shop classes.
Students got to enjoy activities both in and outside the ten wheel truck, including trivia, VR, and interactive displays.
One MSHS Junior Ian Sheltrow said the experience was eye opening.
“This kind of opened my eyes,” said Sheltrow.” I got to see different things and just kind of explore different options that I have for my future now.”
The Schools to Tools Director Bryce Cobb said the goal is to give the kids the information they need to choose the right path after they graduate.
“The average age when people find out about the skilled trades is 27 years old,” said Cobb. “If you catch the young people in the grade school levels and high school levels, they know about this information prior to graduating from high school, and they won’t miss a decade of earning.”
Next week Schools to Tools is headed to Westwood, Escanaba, and Manistique.
