IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich, (WZMQ) – The Upper Peninsula Construction Council (UPCC) is still looking for applications for the Building and Trades Summer Camp.
The UPCC’s six-week program for high school students allows those interested in construction and trades to learn about the career paths available to them while earning a wage.
There are still two available slots open for applicants in the Iron Mountain area.
UPCC Executive Director Michael Smith said every student counts, and the U-P needs new skilled craftsmen now more than ever.
“We have a huge need for construction workers in the UP,” said Smith, “so we cannot physically put enough skilled craftspeople on site to do all of the construction across the UP, and to compound that in the next seven years forty percent of us will be eligible to retire.”
Applications will be open until Wednesday.
Applications can be found here.
