MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – Police say that distracted driving was the cause of a single-vehicle crash in Marquette Township.
On Saturday, May 4, police responded to the crash on Wright Street near Commerce Drive just before 2 pm.
An 82-year-old man from Jenison, Michigan, was driving the 2017 Chrysler Van south on Wright Street when he answered his phone and did not see the road ahead curved to the left.
The van went down an embankment to the right and into a tree line, hitting several small trees but missing large ones.
Three other passengers were in the van with the driver at the time of the crash, one of which complained of a sore neck but sought their own treatment.
Wright Street was closed for a short time while the vehicle was removed from the ditch.
The driver was found at fault in the crash. All occupants were wearing their seatbelts at the time.
Assisting at the scene was Marquette Township Fire and Rescue, and Marquette Detailing.
