ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Escanaba’s Municipal Marina is officially open for the year. This will be its first season under management of the City Recreation Department.
According to Recreation Director Kim Peterson, staffing is up compared to 2023, with four returning staff members and eight new employees. Peterson will split her time between the Civic Center and the marina.
“We have some kids [on staff] back from school and some just wanting something to do during the summer,” she said. “They love Escanaba, so I think having the mixture of those with the college kids is going to be great because they have a lot of knowledge of what happens in the city, what to do in the city, and upcoming events.”
Between seasonal boaters and transients, Peterson anticipates a busy season.
“We have about 40 people that have booked reservations to come into the marina this summer,” she said. “They might spend one night, they might spend two, they might spend a long weekend. We have people coming in for family reunions, class reunions too even, so with them coming in I think the marina’s going to be very full this year.”
The Municipal Marina is currently open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. From June through August, hours will extend to 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. seven days a week.
