ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Portions of US-2 are being closed off while crews repair damage to a bridge west of Escanaba.
According to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), the east approach to the bridge over Portage Creek has suffered pavement damage due to recent rains and high water. Roads eastbound and westbound have been closed. MDOT and the Delta County Road Commission are posting detours.
Just after 8 a.m. on Friday, Escanaba Public Safety officers were redirecting traffic at the intersection of Ludington Street and Willow Creek Road, while the Delta County Sheriff’s Office redirected traffic heading toward Escanaba at the intersection of US-2 and K 5 Road.
The road will remain closed until emergency repairs can be made. MDOT will update the public on the timeline for repairs as more information becomes available.
