MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The DNR mentioned even though we’ve had small amounts of rain and snow, the ground is still relatively dry and wildfire dangers could be more present as summer approaches. The pine, maple, and oak trees make for easy spreaders of wildfires, along with the recent low humidity and high wind conditions.
DNR officials mentioned that wildfires are still most commonly caused by people, and that ahead of lighting any debris or fires, check with the burn permits website.
“You go to where you live on the map you zoom in and it’ll say things like burning is allowed today between the hours of…and if something does happen say you’re burning debris in your backyard or something and a fire does get away from you, call 911 immediately,” commented DNR Public Information Officer John Pepin.
As of right now, Marquette County does have restrictions on the burn permit, residents are not allowed to burn leaves and grass. Click here for updates on the Burn Permits map and whether or not you can burn in your county.
