MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Dozens of members of the Marquette community came together to run for a special cause before celebrating the Festival of the Angry Bear.
The Angry Bear 5k race raised money for the local Special Olympics chapter Saturday morning. It was hosted by both Ore Dock, the host of the Festival of the Angry Bear, and Queen City Running Company.
Runners began at the Fireman’s Lighthouse, running along the shoreline all the way to Picnic Rocks park before heading back to the Ore Dock Brewing Co. People of all ages took part, including some with furry friends.
“It’s just a fun run, 5k — get people out, get people walking. We’ve got gorgeous weather today. [It is a] little kick-off to the Angry Bear Festival, you know, earn those beers today,” said Ken Thompson, owner of Queen City Running Co.
Thompson says the past three years have been such a success in raising money for the Special Olympics and promoting fun. If you would like to donate to Special Olympics go to the Facebook page.
