MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – An 18-year-old man from Gwinn has been arrested following a pursuit through multiple townships on Tuesday night.
At approximately 6:25 pm, troopers from the Michigan State Police were traveling east about on US-41 when they observed a pickup truck make numerous infractions including speeding, passing on the right, following too closely, improper lane use, and disobeying a traffic control device by running a red light at the intersection of US-41 and McClellan (M-553) in the city of Marquette. The vehicle also had a defective third brake lamp and a defective exhaust.
Troopers activated emergency lights, however the vehicle disregarded, and the vehicle drove southbound on M-553. Due to MSP policy, troopers did not initiate a pursuit.
A Marquette City Police Department unit was nearby and was able to observe the vehicle, and made attempts to stop the suspect vehicle. After the driver did not stop, a pursuit was initiated and travelled through Marquette Township, Chocolay Township, and finally ended in West Branch Township.
The suspect was taken into custody at approximately 6:55. He was lodged at the Marquette County Jail on one count of third degree fleeing and eluding, three counts of fourth degree fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, and operating without a license. He is currently waiting for arraignment, and no name has been released.
Marquette City Police Department, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Chocolay Township Police Department, and Forsyth Township Police Department were all involved with the incident.
