ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Over the weekend, Rubik’s Cube enthusiasts put their skills to the test in Escanaba.
Bay College hosted a World Cube Association event at Cafe Bay on Saturday. Competitors of all ages raced against the clock—and each other—to solve their cubes. Matches included 3×3 cubes, a triangular Pyraminx puzzle, and one-handed solves.
“They are competing to solve their cubes as fast as they can,” said World Cube Association delegate Carter Kucala. “They do five solves, then the best and the worst get taken out, and you average the middle three.”
Speedcubers from around the globe competed throughout the day. Results from each competition were updated online live as they solved their cubes.
“People love doing this, and it’s a great opportunity because it’s such a niche hobby,” Kucala said. “There’s not a lot of people that do it, so it’s great to have these sort of competitions where people can socialize and have fun and get their results posted.”
