FORD RIVER, Mich. (WZMQ) – With three Delta County Commissioners facing a recall election in May, their challengers are campaigning to fill their seats.
Commissioners David Moyle, Bob Barron, and Robert Petersen each face a potential recall following an effort by the Delta County Citizens for Ethical Leadership to get a recall on the ballot.
In District #3, Myra Croasdell is running against Barron. On Saturday, Croasdell hosted her first campaign event at the Ford River Lions Club. She discussed the election with voters and answered questions about herself and her campaign.
If elected, Croasdell says she would bring transparency to the County Board of Commissioners.
“The ethical part of it is missing,” she said. “What is important for me is just to let my district and Delta County have a voice. It is not always just my personal opinion; it is the people of Delta County.”
Commissioner Barron denies claims that the board lacks transparency. He says that is proven in the growing number of FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) requests it has responded to since the recall effort began.
“We normally have somewhere around 50 or 60 or so FOIAs a year, and last year I believe there was well over 130, so a dramatic jump,” said Barron. “To say that you’re going to bring transparency, that’s an old line. Definitely needs work, because we’ve always been transparent as far as my tenure.”
Croasdell’s first campaign fundraiser will take place on Saturday, March 23, at the Escanaba Eagle’s Club. Barron says he and Commissioner Petersen will attend a meeting of the local Republican party on Thursday, March 21.
