DELTA COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – Three Delta County Commissioners facing a recall election in May say they received death threats.
In a Facebook post, Commissioner Robert Petersen said that he, Commissioner David Moyle, and Commissioner Bob Barron each received the same email last Thursday from the address hicks@pissoff.com, which read, “Resign now or you will die next week.”
Peterson wrote, “This is the extent that the Progressive left will go to get power in Delta County.”
David Moyle also posted about the situation in a Facebook group, saying, “Well guess what, it’s next week and I’m not going anywhere! But, I would like to let you know that I’ve changed my mind about running, I was going to retire quietly from public life…until I got this death threat! Whoever made it, well you pissed me off and I’m running in November. I’ve beaten, the liberal wing of the Delta County Dems twice, I’ve done it with my policy and my accomplishments. They continue to poison the well and spread lies, and I’m curious if this death threat is something that they will condemn in the strongest terms.”
Moyle’s challenger this May, Kelli Van Ginhoven, also posted a response. “I condemn this action,” she wrote. “Hate has no place here. We are not left, we are not right, we are ALL citizens of Delta County. We are more alike than we are different, despite what some continue to push as their talking points.”
According to Moyle, the commissioners have alerted law enforcement of the situation.
WZMQ 19 News has reached out to the commissioners for further comment on this developing story.
