Iron Mountain Police and Fire Department’s first-ever charity hockey clash takes place this Saturday

IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – Anticipation mounts as the city’s first-ever Guns and Hoses charity hockey game gears up for a thrilling showdown this Saturday at Mountain View Ice Arena. Last year, the fire and police departments united against a local team, but this year marks the inaugural clash between the city’s finest. Inspired by a similar event in Keweenaw, Nate Furton, Iron Mountain Fire Department’s Apparatus Engineer, spearheaded the initiative.

He expressed, “Yeah, we’re hoping to kick up a little more rivalry for the police and fire and hopefully everybody benefits, the cancer closet benefits, the hockey rink benefits.” The event promises entertainment for all ages, with figure skating performances during halftime. Furton added, “We’re having figure skaters, so at the halftime intermission, we’re going to have anywhere from 4 years old to I think 16, and they’ll be doing their little rehearsal thing. So a little bit for everybody.”

The game aims to raise funds for the Cancer Closet, the arena, and the Dickinson Amateur Hockey Association. Furton emphasized, “We don’t get any money from this. Proceeds go to the [Dickinson County] cancer closet, and then the hockey rink and DAHA.” Volunteers are still needed to assist with concessions, ensuring the event runs smoothly. Furton concluded, “I’m hoping it pans out, and hopefully we can make something of it.” Optional donations are welcomed at the door, with a 50-50 raffle adding to the excitement. Iron Mountain braces for an unforgettable charity event, where community spirit and sportsmanship reign supreme.

The two departments hit the ice at 2 p.m. CST Saturday, cost of entry is FREE.

*The Dickinson Amateur Hockey Association is asking for at least 2 more volunteers to help run concessions for this charity event. For a link to the sign-up sheet, visit:
