MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – 24 curlers who were split into 6 teams also took the ice at lakeview during the Meijer State Games.
A 5 game round robin tournament decided who would take home the gold during this year’s competition. All of the athletes had previous curling experience which led to a very competitive field.
The event was put on by the Marquette Curling Club, who is trying to grow the sport in the U.P.
“It’s just a natural fit for the area, most people will know in just a few minutes if they like it or not, but most people get hooked like I did over 20 years ago,” remarked Barry Greenleaf, a Marquette Curling Club Ambassador.
This year’s event was won by the Tinos Bar and Pizza team. For more information on the Marquette Curling Club visit here.
