MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – At approximately 7:30 am on Wednesday, the Marquette Police Department was dispatched to a personal injury crash on US-41 near the Marquette Branch Prison that resulted in a vehicle crashing into Lake Superior.
Officers at the scene learned through the investigation that the crash involved three vehicles. A gray Subaru SUV, traveling north, was struck from the rear by a black Chrysler Sedan, and veered off the roadway and down into Lake Superior.
The driver of the Chrysler stopped in the roadway, and exited the vehicle. A third vehicle, a blue Saturn sedan, struck the Chrysler which in turn struck the driver who was outside of the vehicle.
The driver of the Subaru was assisted by officers to shore. The driver of the Chrysler was transported to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of injuries. The drivers of the Subaru and Saturn received minor injuries, but declined medical treatment at the scene. The accident was cleared, and the Subaru was removed from the lake.
The crash is still under investigation.
