One Year Later: Ian Goldi’s mysterious disappearance remains unsolved

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI – Police launched an investigation into the disappearance of 39-year-old Ian Goldi on February 2nd, 2023. Goldi, who was en route to Iron Mountain, vanished after being last seen in Escanaba on January 28th.

Captain Darren Smith of Escanaba Public Safety disclosed, “We have continued to get quite a few leads that the detectives look into. Usually on a weekly basis. Nothing at this point we can release, but the leads are continuing.”

Reports indicate Goldi was spotted at a Quality Inn in Escanaba, where a suspicious incident unfolded in the parking lot. According to the hotel, Goldi had checked into the hotel under a false name. Additionally, there was a concerning encounter at Anytime Fitness in Iron Mountain, where Goldi frequented, just two weeks before his disappearance.

Suspicions of drug-related activities and a history of paranoid episodes surfaced from police interviews. However, acquaintances mentioned Goldi was striving to turn his life around. Jake Rice, a trainer at Anytime Fitness, commented, “He had a lot of things going good for him. He got a nice apartment he was happy about.”

Anytime Fitness has taken precautions, leaving Goldi’s account active to track potential usage.

Police records show the last text from Goldi’s phone was sent on the morning of January 29th, stating that he had gotten a ride home. However, Goldi was not heard from again.

Despite extensive searches and surveillance efforts, Goldi’s apartment was found deserted in February 2023.

Captain Smith emphasized, “I know that with our investigators, they’re going to exhaust every possible chance with following up with any of these leads that they can. Anytime if anybody has any information that could assist us, even if you wanted to make an anonymous complaint, we encourage people to come forward and provide any information they may have. Even if it has been covered, or people assume that somebody may have shared that information.”

Escanaba Public Safety urges anyone with information to step forward, offering anonymity for tips to aid in the investigation.
