MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Marquette Public Works snow storage for this season is at a bare minimum. The winter parking ban typically allows the plow crews to use large snowblowers attached to plows to collect the snow, however, Public Works noted that crews haven’t attached them at all this season.
The snow they collect is filled with sand and dirt and can’t be used for events like the UP200. Workers said the removal is just to make room for emergency vehicles.
“All the snow that’s stored out there it’s all either coming from parking lots or we get into snowbank removal if the streets start getting tight, parking in areas where there’s parking so we’re able to get emergency vehicles up and down the roads,” commented Director of Public Works at City of Marquette Scott Cambensy.
Cambensy noted that even with no snow, the public needs to keep a safe distance from the plows as the drivers operate heavy machinery.
