ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Wednesday, two organizations teamed up to feed hundreds of hungry families and individuals in Delta County.
The Escanaba Salvation Army hosted a Feeding America West Michigan mobile food pantry. In only a few hours, volunteers loaded about 330 vehicles with 12,000 pounds of food.
“People make decisions of paying my utility bill or paying rent or food on the table vs. other things, and we want to be able to make that easier on folks right now,” said Salvation Army Captain Doug Winters. “We know the need is great right now. This supplements all of our other programs—we have a food pantry—and this is just another way to support people.”
The Salvation Army hosts food distributions each month, typically on the third Wednesday. However, anyone looking to attend the drive-through event is encouraged to call the Salvation Army at (906) 786-0590 or visit saescanaba.org to confirm the date and time. Those interested in volunteering can also contact the Salvation Army by phone or online.
