MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – UPDATE 2/6/24: Police have identified and charged the man who brough the gun into Marquette City Hall on January 22.
66-year-old Leon James Arnold, of Marquette, was arrested on February 5, and charged with seven counts after the incident.
He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, two counts of felonious assault, resisting and obstructing, two counts of felony firearm, and brandishing a firearm in public.
Arnold was unable to post the $110,000 bond, and is currently lodged at the Marquette County Jail.
No arraignment date has been set yet.

UPDATE 6:10 p.m.: According to the Marquette City Police Department in a press release, the suspect in the incident entered the lower-level of City Hall at approximately 3:35 pm and requested to speak with a police officer.
While waiting, he confronted a civilian with a handgun who exited the building safely. He then reapproached the police department front window and confronted officers with the handgun.
City Hall was evacuated, and a perimeter was established to contain the incident to the lower level of City Hall. After conversing with the suspect for approximately 90 minutes, he was disarmed by officers. A loaded handgun was recovered.
The man was transported to UPHS-Marquette for evaluation. The male and one officer received minor injuries, but the officer did not seek medical attention.
The incident remains under investigation and will be forwarded to the Marquette County Prosecutors Office for review.
Assisting with the incident was the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, NMU Police Department, Marquette Fire Department, UPHS-Marquette EMS, and Marquette County Central Dispatch.

UPDATE 5:04 p.m.: A man is in custody after police say he brought a gun into Marquette City Hall Monday afternoon.
It’s unclear what led up to the situation, but a sheriff’s deputy says authorities were able to get the gun away from the man and take him into custody.

Police agencies are investigating a threat at the Marquette City Hall building, which also includes the Police Department.
Not many details are known at this time, but police at the scene have told WZMQ that they are investigating a threat in the building, and it is quickly evolving. The nature of the threat has not been announced yet.
The Marquette City Police currently have Baraga Street between 4th and 5th Streets closed down due to the investigation.
The Marquette Sheriff’s Department is also assisting at the scene.
