CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Chippewa County man charged with an arson in Paradise last fall now faces with two additional arson charges.
Joseph Carl Halder, 35, was arrested Nov. 11, 2023 for a suspected arson in downtown Paradise. He was arrested at the scene of the fire and arraigned two days later. The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office says Halder was new to the area and had joined the fire department earlier that summer.
At the time, Halder was also a person of interest in two other suspicious structure fires in Whitefish Township. The first fire happened in Paradise on Oct. 5, 2023. The second happened off M-123 south of Paradise on Nov. 5.
After an investigation and additional interviews and evidence, the county prosecutor authorized two additional felony arson charges.
Halder was arrested and arraigned on the new charges Wednesday, Jan. 17.
He was given a $150,000 bond on top of his current $200,000 bond from the original charge.
