IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – Iron Mountain local and resident of Dickinson County, Katie Burie, a certified life coach and founder of Open Door Life Coach and Counseling, shares insights on the benefits of having a life coach as residents gear up for their 2024 New Year’s resolutions.
Burie emphasizes the value of accountability, stating, “Having a life coach allows you to have accountability. It’s somebody that you can come to and say I’m really struggling here. I’m feeling weak here. I totally messed up there, and they can help encourage you. We become your cheerleader when you’re doing well, and when you’re not doing well. We do better in community, so we have someone fighting for you in your direction for your same goal. You just feel empowered in that.”
Reflecting on her journey, Burie shared, “I officially opened ‘Open Door’ in March 2022 and stepped into it full-time in October 2022. After successfully completing my first year, I joined the chamber, feeling strong and confident that it’s making an impact and gaining traction. Joining the chamber is a way to connect with other businesses, build better connections and community, and get my face and name out there.”
As the founder of Open Door Counsel and Life Coaching, a mind-body and spirit wellness resource center, Burie incorporates her passion for essential oils, selling customized handmade essential oil blends. She says, “Things that help your mind or spirit, that’s what I like to focus on. I love to share essential oils with people to decrease toxicity levels in the body and promote overall health.”
With a background in church ministries and human services counseling, Burie offers a unique blend of coaching styles, including Christian coaching. She informed, “I have an undergraduate degree in church ministries with a focus on music. I’m a singer-songwriter. My graduate degree is in human services counseling and life coaching. I offer Christian coaching, biblical coaching, or ways to connect with God in your story.”
Burie introduces “creative counsel,” a unique approach to discussions about feelings. She explained, “We use art in one-on-one expression sessions where people can come in and express themselves using paints and colored pencils. We also have group sessions where we focus on a theme, using art as a form of support group therapy.”
Detailing upcoming events, Burie mentioned, “I just uploaded everything onto the website so all the events are on the website under upcoming events.”
Beyond coaching, Open Door hosts activities like the “Digging Deeper Bible Study and Soul Care” and a monthly community meal in different restaurants. Burie stated, “It’s about building community through shared meals and spiritually supporting each other.”
The first community meal of 2024 is set for January 9th at Carlos Cantina, and in February the gathering will take place at Spiros in February 7th.
As Dickinson County residents embark on their 2024 resolutions, the guidance and support of a life coach like Katie Burie prove to be a valuable asset, offering accountability, encouragement, and a holistic approach to personal growth.
