MARQUETTE, Mich, (WZMQ) – The Marquette Downtown Development Authority is partnering with Double Trouble entertainment for this year’s Ball Drop Bash.
However, this year they also will be providing another ball drop at 7 p.m. to give kids and families the ball drop experience without staying up with midnight.
With the earlier drop, West Washington St. will be closed at 5 p.m. and open again at 1 p.m. on January 1st.
The Marquette DDA’s Business Outreach and Promotions Director Michael Bradford said the ball drop is a great way to get people into downtown Marquette during the winter months.
“Especially this time of year there’s not as much going on,” said Bradford. “The sun’s going down sooner, the weather’s colder, it’s windier, so this is a good opportunity to get people downtown in the slow season, especially as we go into the rest of the winter season.”
The Marquette social district will close at 10 p.m. as usual, though many businesses will be having their own events before and during the ball drop.
The DDA also reminds everyone to make sure not to leave their car parked on Washington Street to close to the closure, as it may become trapped there overnight.
