GLADSTONE, Mich. (WZMQ) – This weekend, Gladstone area public servants are spreading some goodwill for the holidays.
On Sunday, Gladstone Public Safety, the Gladstone Volunteer Fire Department, and the Escanaba Township Volunteer Fire Department will hold their annual Candy Cane & Canned Food Drive. From 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., officers and firefighters will drive their decorated vehicles through neighborhoods passing out candy canes, which have been donated by Walmart.
In exchange, the community is encouraged to donate non-perishable foods, which will go to the St. Vincent de Paul pantry.
“It’s a way for people to get to meet Gladstone Public Safety and the volunteer firemen,” said Gladstone Public Safety Director Ron Robinson. “What better time of year to do it than around Christmas and to spread Christmas cheer? It’s just a good public relations event and we get to help out the local food pantry.”
Anyone who has items to donate—or who would just like to receive a candy cane—is asked to leave their outside light on during the Candy Cane & Canned Food Drive. Donations can also be left outside with an exterior light on.
