Michigan Veteran Homes spreading joy through the holiday season campaign

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Michigan Veteran Homes DJ Jacobetti, along with the two downstate locations is running a ‘Make a Veteran Smile Campaign’ for the holiday season. The event not only encourages Michiganders to send letters to veterans but also reminds us that these traditions, although long-standing, might not be possible without those who served this country.

“It is incredible to work somewhere where the veterans are so well supported. As simple as making a card for the veteran’s children’s art that’s wonderful,” commented DJ Jacobetti’s Volunteer Coordinator Sarah Johnson. Johnson noted that year after year, veterans seem much more uplifted by these campaigns.

The DJ Jacobetti is opening up the opportunity for the community to send holiday letters, banners, and even food tray placemats which Johnson notes is always a popular hit. “They especially like the placemats, there’s a group that gets together and they compare their placemats and try to decide how old the kid is,” continued Johnson.

The Michigan Veteran Homes is asking for community members interested in sending messages or cards to use large writing, and dark ink and can feel free to add a personal note.

“The big thing to remember with the cards or the placemats is if they are themed they need to arrive before the holiday it’s really that we keep things seasonally appropriate and then spread the joy out a little bit past the holidays”, continued Johnson.

Another light that shines bright for the veterans is at the Peter White Public Library, where you can find the DJ Jacobetti Christmas tree, decorated with red, white, and blue stars hanging around it.
